Hello Everyone, Youth Group, 10/3/10
So, I had to (very unfortunately) leave at the break to attend work, and was wondering if someone would so kindly fill me in on what you guys in the youth group discussed?
As you probably saw, my intended project is to start making basketball more available to youth in Brisbane. Now, I'm not from here, nor have I done loads of research around it, but from what I know, basketball isn't a very big youth hobby here in Brisbane, I love basketball and I want kids to grow up into adults like me that love it too. So, I wanted to start out small by introducing more and regular youth basketball camps/clinics in the Brisbane area, and then ultimately, make it more popular by introducing it into schools. However, these are just ideas, and I would like to hear what YOU guys think???
I set up my blog last week www.brisbanebasketball.blogspot.com but have yet to fix it up a little bit and make it look pretty! :) I initially just chose basketball as my topic, but after talking to a few people, I decided to narrow it down to youth basketball. So I will be changing that in my blog tomorrow (I will leave a post and let you guys know when it's all good).
Anyway, right now I have to go do work and reading for 3 other classes! :) ( I know, I said it-"I heart learning" buuut ... I think I heart sleeping just as much! ;)
I'm excited to hear what your suggestions are. Good Night guys!

If you need help contacting these guys, let me know! (I don't know anyone directly involved in this at the moment, but could prob find out for you if you need a hand).
Reply 2-Hi Rachel,
It's too bad we didn't get to catch up during lecture, hopefully we can sit down and talk during/ after tomorrows' class.
My project runs on the same/ similar lines as yours. I am also a member of the "youth group", focusing on promoting sports amongst youth as a means of participation, integration, and empowerment for youth. Still haven't quite narrowed down exactly where I want to focus my energies.. there are so many routes to take via fundraising / raising awareness and getting kids participating. I have been in contact with a group called "Right to Play", I'm not sure if you are familiar at all with their work, but I am a keen supported of what they do and stand for, and am looking forward to hopefully spending some time volunteering with them once this semester is over.
One of the issues I am struggling with a little bit is whether to gear my project towards setting up a program for local youth in the area to get them involved in sport, ( obviously this would be an amazing acheivement, but given the time contraints to have carried out the project, I am leaning towards getting people involved in some kind of 24 hour sports marathon, or a tournament of some kind to raise awareness and some funding that I can send to a program that is already set up and running.
I'd love to hear any advice or input you have. Looking forward to seeing everyone in class tomorrow.

It is very reassuring to hear that someone thinks it's a good idea! :) I'll go have a look right now at the site and let you know if I do need any help contacting them. Thank you!
